Meet Chrisy Kim

Why did you found ALTON?

I wanted students to have one place where practice, understanding, and personal guidance work together. Too often preparation is scattered across tools and advice that never connect. ALTON is built so that what you practice and what you are guided on belong to the same picture.

What has your experience in education taught you about how students improve?

Students improve when they understand why an answer was wrong, not only that it was wrong. Steady practice, honest review, and a clear sense of what to work on next matter more than any single test day.

How do free practice and tutoring connect at ALTON?

Free practice tests and learning tools let any student start on their own and see where they stand. Tutoring and consulting are a separate, premium service for students who want a more personal approach. When a student chooses to continue, their ALTON learning history gives us a starting point for the conversation.

What does a first consultation look like?

It begins with listening. We talk about the student's goals and how preparation has been going, and look at where they are today. The aim is to leave with a clearer sense of priorities and a sensible next step, without pressure to commit.

What is your advice to parents?

Support the process, not just the outcome. Ask your child what they are working on and what they found difficult, and treat mistakes as useful information. Steady encouragement helps more than constant pressure.

What is your advice to students about mistakes?

Do not hide from them. Every mistake shows you something specific to learn. Keep them in one place, come back to them, and notice the patterns. That is how a mistake becomes progress.

What do you want students to feel when they work with ALTON?

I want them to feel supported and capable: clear about what to do next, confident that effort leads somewhere, and never alone in the process.

Frequently asked questions

What is included for free?

A free ALTON account includes SAT and AP practice tests with detailed results and explanations, a mistake notebook for questions you want to revisit, a vocabulary builder, and the study materials ALTON has approved for free access. Tutoring and consulting are not part of the free account.

Do I need a parent account to start?

No. Students aged 13 or older can create a free account on their own. A parent or guardian is only involved if you later choose to explore premium tutoring, and tutoring starts only after a parent or guardian is on board.

How do SAT and AP practice tests differ?

SAT practice on ALTON is modular and adaptive: each section has two modules, and your performance in the first module shapes the second. AP practice tests are subject-specific, with one set of tests for each AP subject.

Can I review my mistakes and save vocabulary?

Yes. Save missed questions to your mistake notebook to retry them later, and save unfamiliar words to your vocabulary builder to review them alongside your test preparation.

What does premium tutoring include?

Premium tutoring pairs you with a specialist tutor, together with educational consulting. It is a separate paid service and is never included in the free account. Details are on the Premium Tutoring page.

How do I request a consultation?

Use any Request a Consultation button. Free students can register interest from their dashboard, and ALTON invites a parent or guardian to continue. Parents and other visitors can submit the consultation form on the home page.
